Summary
Feedback highlights include a lovely, spacious, and well-equipped accommodation with beautiful surroundings. Guests appreciated the friendly and accommodating owners, excellent welcome packs, and cozy furnishings. Some noted minor issues like dampness and garden overgrowth, but overall experiences were positive, with many planning return visits.
The property
The front door of this detached holiday cottage takes you into a porch where you can leave outdoor gear, then to the hall with access to the kitchen, bathroom and large living area. The twin bedroom is at the far side of the kitchen and stairs rise from the dining area to a unique galleried bedroom.
Wassicks Cottage is surrounded by enchanting gardens and is a peaceful retreat for family and friends, from where they can enjoy so many sights and activities that Suffolk and neighbouring Cambridgeshire have to offer. There is parking for two cars on the main drive (shared with the owners).
Ground floor
Follow the path around the beautiful water fountain and enter into the large porch with stone tiled flooring and hang your hat on the feature horse head coat hooks before you continue through into the hallway which leads ahead to the bathroom, left to the kitchen and twin bedroom beyond and right into the open plan living and dining area with stairs leading to the mezzanine master bedroom above.
Kitchen
You’ll enjoy preparing meals in this spacious bespoke handmade kitchen with plenty of cupboards, very deep wood effect worktops and handsome corner cabinet. There’s a free standing cooker with oven, grill and four ring ceramic hob, an under counter washing machine and refrigerator and a microwave.
Living/Dining Room
From the hall, step up into the attractive dining area with substantial extending table and six chairs, dresser and handmade curtains and blind at the windows which overlook the rear and side aspects of the garden.
Through a wide gap between the exposed vertical beans sits the elegant living room with a large stylish Chesterfield Sofa and matching armchair with footstool. This double height room is bright with huge windows gives a feeling of calm and the fabulous wood burning stove brings warmth and comfort during the cooler months. There is a flat screen tv with DVD player which lets you enjoy your favourite programmes films together and this room is also a great place to play board games with family and friends.
Bathroom
The bathroom has been completely refurbished to include a large walk in rainfall shower. There is a WC and wash basin.
Twin Bedroom
Through a door from the kitchen is this charming bedroom with matching white wooden full-size single beds a central bedside table with lamp and blanket boxes for storage. With oodles of character, the twin has painted stone walls, a window overlooking the courtyard and soft carpet underfoot.
First floor
From the dining area carpeted stairs with bannister rise to the mezzanine master bedroom.
Mezzanine Master Bedroom
A very pretty room in the eaves of the building with a double wrought iron bed. The room overlooks the living area with bannister and view of the garden beyond through the full height windows (curtained at the bottom with vertical blinds at the top). For storage, you have a large wooden chest of drawers, two bedside units and a cupboard with hanging rail. There is a lovely dressing table with hinged mirror and an A-frame full-length mirror.
Outside
The five-bar gate at the top of the drive encloses this most magical garden with large pond which wraps around the cottage. With exquisite topiary, stunning feature roses and so many nooks to explore, this glorious garden really is special.
At the front of the cottage is a water fountain with lilies, which the kitchen window overlooks. It provides the tranquil sound of trickling water and a super place for birds and other wildlife to drink. At the rear of the cottage there are two picnic tables by the pond for al fresco dining, with BBQ provided, and a small piece of lawn. There is no fencing around the pond so children must be supervised at all times.
Dogs are welcome downstairs at Wassicks Cottage, and although they must be on a lead within the garden and farm because of the animals, there is a meadow next to the cottage where dogs can freely enjoy the space.
