Summary
The property offers a lovely, peaceful location with character and comfort. While steep steps and tight parking may pose challenges, many appreciated its charm, cleanliness, and well-equipped amenities. Guests enjoyed local walks and a friendly community but suggested a starter pack for the log burner and a visitor's book.
The property
Welcome to Penywhelp House in the lovely village of St Dogmaels (Llandudoch),
Pembrokeshire. The house is just over a mile from Poppit Sands, a beautiful
beach that is family and dog-friendly. There is also great access to the
coastal paths, which provide spectacular views and are perfect for long and
short walks.
Built in the 1800s, Penywhelp House is a charming two-bedroom property with
views of the River Teifi. It is full of character with beams, sash windows
and an old bread oven.
The living room is comfortably furnished and includes a large smart TV and
a wood-burning stove to enjoy pleasant evenings in front of a fire.
The kitchen is small but well-equipped. It is a traditionally styled Welsh
kitchen with a slate floor, Welsh dresser, Belfast sink, beams, and an old
bread-oven. The dining room is light and airy with an extendable dining
table that can seat up to 6 people.
Both bedrooms are spacious doubles with window seats overlooking the River
Teifi. The bathroom is modern with a shower and bath.
The property includes parking for one vehicle and an enclosed rear garden.
The patio is planted with fresh herbs and has a table and chairs for four.
Our family has been enjoying Penywhelp House since 1911 and it provides the
perfect countryside escape for four guests and two well-behaved dogs; we
hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Within St Dogmaels, there is an array of amenities; just paces from
Penywhelp House is The Ferry Inn offering delicious meals and tipples.
In the centre of the village is the Premier convenience store for
essentials and Glebelands Market Garden on the road to Cardigan provides
excellent local produce.
In the village you can also visit St Dogmaels Abbey and a working water
mill, Y Felin.
Don’t miss the local market on Tuesday mornings by the Abbey and enjoy a
coffee at The Coach House Visitor Centre!
Just over a mile away is Poppit Sands, perfect for a family day out or
walking the dogs. Make sure you visit The Crwst Café, which offers
wonderful ice cream, doughnuts, and coffee.
A short journey away, is the neighbouring Cardigan town offering a wide
range of food, drink, and shopping.
And there is so much more to explore in this idyllic part of Wales!
