Summary

The accommodation is a lovely, well-equipped and clean property in a beautiful and isolated setting, ideal for exploring Dorset. While some found the bed small and the location hard to find due to narrow roads and erratic signposting, most enjoyed their comfortable stay and appreciated the welcoming touches.

The property

If you wish to escape 'Far from the Madding Crowd' then look no further than this charming Grade ll listed former schoolroom, situated on the owner's working beef farm in deepest Dorset, right on the border with Somerset. A truly rural spot, appealing to those who really want to experience the country life, this attractive cottage offers upside down holiday accommodation. A comfortably furnished double bedroom is on the ground floor next to the shower room, whilst the first floor opens up into a good-sized social space, with a kitchen, dining area and sitting area under an impressive beamed vaulted ceiling. Outside, there's a sun trap private patio area, a great place for enjoying time together listening to the sounds of the countryside. The cottage is right on National Cycle Way 26, offering lovely byways to explore, as well as scenic rural walks straight from the door, including Castle Hill, a small Iron Age earthwork from which there are lovely views. Within an easy drive you can take in a trip to ancient Sherborne, the beautiful gardens of Forde Abbey, the famous Cerne Abbas Giant, cut into the chalk hillside, or visit the bustling Dorset county market town of Dorchester, and even the gorgeous Dorset coast. In fact you really are spoilt for choice as to what to visit whilst staying at this unusual rural cottage!
