Summary
The property is spacious and comfortable, situated in a quiet village with good amenities and local walks. However, there were issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and an unjust deduction from the Good Housekeeping Bond. Guests enjoyed the location and family-friendly features, despite concerns about property management.
The property
Enjoying magnificent views over the village of Hartington, and surrounding countryside of the Peak District National Park, discover this superb four-bedroom abode, The Old Croft. Boasting a woodburning stove, off-road parking, pet-friendly living and close access to the local amenities and attractions, The Old Croft welcomes seven guests and two four-legged friends to enjoy a peaceful retreat to Derbyshire. After a fun-filled day of exploring, return to your new home-from-home ready to kick back and unwind in the pleasant sitting room, complete with woodburning stove and TV so you can catch up on your favourite shows. For some peace and quiet, why not head to the snug and reading room, also featuring a piano; the ideal nook for a relaxing evening. In the kitchen/diner, get to grips with a fantastic array of high-quality appliances to prepare a tasty dish to be enjoyed in the formal dining room. When the evening begins to draw to a close, retreat to the first floor to take a long soak in the tub or freshen up with use of your own en-suite shower in the double bedroom; a further two doubles and a single provide a flexible sleeping arrangement for all types of groups. In the morning, begin your exploration in the centre of Hartington where you can stock up on the self-catering essentials at the convenience store or sample some hearty grub at one of several pubs or cafes. From your doorstep, you can also amble to the Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow, explore the depths of Thor’s Cave, or tour the stunning ruins of Throwley Old Hall; close by is also Ilam Park, a 158-acre country park perfect for soaking in the magnificent countryside views or embark on a woodland walk. Within reach of the adrenaline-inducing Alton Towers and the splendid cities of Derby and Nottingham, you’ll never be short of things to see or do here! The market towns of Ashbourne, Leek, Wirksworth, and Matlock are all reachable by car, teeming with further amenities and attractions to add to your itinerary, or why not head to Castleton for an underground tour of the Blue John Cavern, ending with a tipple at The Castle pub?
