Dine alfresco and raise a toast to your getaway, with the trickling river as the soundtrack to your evening. When the sun sets, venture back inside and to the first floor, where you can freshen up in the family bathroom before choosing between two double bedrooms or a single room to catch up on sleep. The 14th-century Raby Castle is also within reach, as is Bowes Castle. You could also venture further afield into the thriving city of Durham to discover the breathtaking Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle, which boasts views over the River Wear.
