Summary
The cottage offers a great location for exploring the North York Moors and coastline, with plenty of space and comfortable beds. While well-equipped, it lacked some details such as an info book and seasoning. The decor could be improved, and low ceilings upstairs were a concern, but overall, it provided a lovely stay.
The property
Settled amongst the rural greenery of North Yorkshire, on the outskirts of Whitby, rests this charming stone-built holiday home, Hawthorn Dale Cottage. Enjoying a characterful interior with exposed wooden beams and boasting far-reaching views towards the historic Whitby Abbey, Hawthorn Dale Cottage makes a wonderful base for a group of three looking to explore this sought-after area. Stepping inside your new home-from-home, be charmed by the wooden beams that adorn the ceiling of the open-plan living/dining room, providing a snug space to settle down with a warming cup of tea following a day of adventure. Albeit small in size, the contemporary kitchen is equipped with a range of essential amenities, sure to entice any budding chef to prepare delicious meals that can be enjoyed at the dining table, or amongst the scenic greenery of the garden. Completing the ground floor of this delightful cottage is a stylish shower room, whilst a double and an intimate single can be found by ascending the stairs to the first floor, with the latter framing far-reaching views towards the historic abbey from its Velux window. A short walk from your doorstep will bring you to the local pub, The Forge Inn, where you can fuel a day of excursions with a hearty breakfast, or treat your loved ones to an evening of traditional pub grub and a crisp pint of ale in the charming beer garden. The heart of Whitby is set within easy reach, home to a wealth of must-see sights and attractions, including the fascinating displays of local history at Whitby Museum, the picture-perfect harbour and the iconic 199 steps leading to Whitby Abbey, famed as the inspiration behind Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. Take advantage of your coastal location and board the Whitby Cliff Lift to reach the pristine sands of Whitby Beach, where vibrant huts line the front, offering a truly idyllic seaside setting, whilst the pint-sized village of Robin Hood's Bay offers a peaceful escape from Whitby's usual hustle and bustle. For a change of scenery, the North York Moors National Park can be found further inland, stretching miles of towering woodland, rolling hills and vast open moorland waiting to be explored, perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in North Yorkshire's great outdoors. Make unforgettable memories with a rural retreat to Hawthorn Dale Cottage.
