The property
Nestled on the outskirts of Goathland in North Yorkshire, is this lovely three-bedroom barn conversion, Meadowsweet. Enjoying a superb location within the North York Moors National Park and fantastic views overlooking the NYMR Steam Railway from its remote and elevated location, Meadowsweet is a fabulous dwelling for a group or family of six seeking a relaxing retreat in a peaceful countryside setting. Meadowsweet is situated within a large enclosed gated courtyard, with space for four vehicles. This charming former 1880’s granary, has been lovingly restored to provide a charming holiday barn for six people to enjoy. Retaining the original stone staircase which leads up to the master bedroom which now has a Juliet balcony with stunning views across the valley, this room was used to store animal feed and grain. We have preserved some of its’ former character and charm the original sandstone internal walling and staircase, some of the timber lintels above the doorways (originating from old sailing craft from Whitby). Upstairs there are a two further double bedrooms one of which can be configured as either two single beds or a double. There is also shower room with walk in shower, sink and WC, leading on to a large landing upstairs, which can be used as a private seating area for reading or relaxing. Downstairs, the hall offers space for hanging coats and storing your shoes. Leading from the hall is a handy cloakroom for your convenience. Off the hall is the kitchen /diner and providing a large lounge area for everyone to relax. The ground-floor level has underfloor heating and a log burner in the lounge, promising a warm and inviting space. The kitchen is spacious with an oak dining room table and six chairs. Walk through to the large lounge comfort awaits while watching a large wall mounted smart tv, where you can log into your own Netflix account. The lounge has a glass curtain wall affording outward looking views and an adjacent door offers access out into your private seating area overlooking the whole valley. Use of an additional barn to store your bikes, prams etc is also available. The idyllic village of Goathland has you need to enjoy a memorable stay in North Yorkshire, from its charming tea rooms to its well-stocked village store and the renowned Aidensfield Stores, made famous by its appearance on the Heartbeat TV series. The town is also home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which featured as Hogsmeade Station in the well-known Harry Potter film series, where you can hop aboard and sit back as you enjoy a scenic ride through the vast moorlands. The location is a haven for wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts with sheep and lambs in the fields, kestrels and buzzards wheeling in the sky and the sounds of the Murk Esk river flowing and cascading down the valley below. Be sure to soak up the stunning sunsets and the captivating starry nights, with the village having Dark Skies status. Your prime location will be a hit with the keen walkers and outdoor enthusiasts in your party, with a wealth of walking and cycling trails available close by, including Beck Hole, Mallyan Spout and the Cedar Trail which runs between Goathland and Grosmont or for more leisurely strolls, visit the Cawthorn Roman Camp or the Mount Grace Priory House and Gardens. For a day along the coast, drive over to Whitby, where you can spend a day on the golden sands of Whitby Beach, enjoy panoramic views from atop the 199 Steps, marvel at the Gothic architecture of Whitby Abbey or test out your swing at Whitby Golf Club. For a truly unforgettable day, take a trip out from the harbour to spot the resident whales that frequent the shores! From Whitby, you can easily access the delights of Scarborough, well-known for its attractions of Scarborough Castle, Alpamare, Open Air Theatre and its access to the Cleveland Way.
