Summary
Feedback highlights beautiful views, cleanliness, and spacious parking at the property. Guests appreciated the thoughtful welcome treats and the charm of red squirrels. Minor issues include leaking shower seals and the need for more serving dishes. Overall, a cozy house in a great location, ideal for family stays.
The property
This spacious, detached holiday house, in a typical Arts and Crafts style is located in Benllech, on the exquisite Isle of Anglesey, near the village centre and some beautiful beaches.
Built in 1910 with spectacular views across the valley towards the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) and down over the Benllech beach plus a very large country garden. The house has recently been carefully restored.
With parking for five cars, a Rolec car charger and access to all the attractions scattered throughout the Isle of Anglesey and its Coastal Path, Neuadd Wen is a great location for a large group of up to 11 guests.
Enjoy North Wales at its best, with a large country garden bordered by a forest inhabited by red squirrels.
After a day of appreciating the sights relax in the sitting room, sink into two beautiful couches by a wood-burning fireplace and a Freeview TV with internet link and all the apps you will ever need.
The kitchen will suit any amateur chef, fully equipped and with its own views across the valley.
There is an excellent local butcher in Benllech and a sea food shop, opens seasonally only.
The dining room is separate and offers a spacious solid oak table for up to 12 people.
The conservatory looks out over the valley and offers a peaceful haven to read or play some board games.
The utility room is very well equipped with a new washing machine and tumble dryer.
All the bedrooms are superbly furnished, good sizes and nicely proportioned. One bedroom is located downstairs and includes twin beds that can be pushed together to make a super-king-size which suits guests with limited mobility.
The 4-seater sofa in the lounge converts simply to a very high quality bed settee with a pocket sprung double mattress, creating total sleeping spaces for up to 11 people. There is a ground floor bathroom with an option of bath or shower. Upstairs, there is a king-size room with TV, two twin rooms with beds that can be pushed together to make super-king size, plus a charming single, and a beautiful shower room. In the enclosed country garden, approximately half an acre, there is a full-sized children's play set for the younger children of the party. Plus, a generous 12-seater picnic table with parasol to enjoy a full alfresco experience. There is also a good-sized garden room, so whatever the weather you can enjoy its football table and professional darts board, or if the weather is good enough use the extra garden furniture and beach toys stored in there.
When the weather permits, Traeth Benllech and Red Wharf Bay, two lovely beaches are only a short distance away, great for a day of playing in the sand, enjoying a good book, and getting a tan. Red Wharf Bay is a charming 18-minute walk from the house.
Also recommended for kids is the nearby Pili Palas Nature World, with all sorts of animals and a petting corner.
The Storws Wen Golf Club is nearby, a challenging 9-hole course, will entertain the keen putters in your group.
If you don't fancy cooking, take the company to one of the local restaurants or bars, which cater to a wide range of tastes. Try the best food pub in Wales, the Bull in Beaumaris.
Then there is the family friendly Ship Pub in Red Wharf Bay reputedly the best fish and chips on the island. Explore the ruins of The Lligwy Cromlech, Capel Lligwy, Din Lligwy, and the Old Fishermen's Cottages at Moelfre. Visit Beaumaris, a prosperous seaside town with a charming high-street, a fabulous 12th century castle, 17th century Courthouse and Gaol, and a delightful pier suitable for crab fishing.
If speed and excitement is for you, try a fast motorized rib ride with the family from Beaumaris. Bound to wake up the sleepiest holiday makers. Neuadd Wen is in a terrific location for discovering Anglesey and North Wales at any time of year.
