Originally built in the 17th century, this delightful holiday property, has been carefully converted, combining interesting features with comfort, and making good use of pretty cottage-style prints, soft furnishings and some antiques, all in keeping with its period character. Dolgenau Hir (The Barn) has an endearing, quirky charm, high pitched ceilings boasting roughly hewn beams, irregular stone walls and an attractive woodburner in the sitting room. A well-equipped kitchen with granite worktops caters for all your needs and the cosy dining area boasts a French cherry wood dining table and benches. Two pretty bedrooms, a double and a twin together with a spacious family bathroom completes this lovely rural retreat. After a busy day of sightseeing, take a stroll in the garden which also has a seating area ideal for dining alfresco and being south-facing offers lovely views across the valley. The area is beautiful, ranging from fertile farm land in the valleys to mountainous regions with lakes and forests. For visitors with time to walk and explore, the countryside is perfection. The nearby Hafren Forest, from which the Rivers Hafren (Severn), Wye and Rheidol rise. The areas around Caersws and Llanidloes is criss-crossed with a myriad of footpaths, with over 30 routes in the area including the popular Severn Way and Glyndwrs Way. You are ideally placed to explore the stunning Cambrian Mountain landscapes with the breathtaking Llyn Clywedog and its impressive dam, rich in wildlife and set in idyllic surroundings less than five miles away. Why not take a trip to Newtown, rich in industrial heritage much of which is established in the textiles? A little further out is Dolforwyn Castle or the pretty town of Montgomery nestled beneath its castle ruins. The area offers numerous outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, watersports on Llyn Clywedog and a variety of nature reserves. Why not take a trip to Pwll Penarth and at certain times of the year you may be able to see the Sand Martins swooping in and out of their nesting holes or watch the salmon leaping in the River Severn? Slightly further afield, you can take a trip to the beautifully restored Glansevern Hall Gardens, 21 miles away or perhaps take a day trip to the formidable National Trust's Powis Castle, 26 miles away and the chance to experience the medieval castle rising from the Italianate terraces and yew hedges.
