Summary
The location is excellent, being close to the beach with quiet interiors. However, several areas need improvement, including the cramped kitchen, low doorways, limited storage, and maintenance of the outdoor space. The cottage exhibits signs of wear, requiring decoration and better tidiness for an enhanced experience.
The property
Glan Y Mor is a rustic seaside retreat on the Cardigan Bay shoreline at Borth, near Aberystwyth. One of the few remaining 18th century fisherman's cottages, it comes with thick stone walls, low ceilings, quirky features and bags of character. With its patio leading directly on to the beach and offering stunning sea views, this coastal cottage welcomes two well-behaved pets, has a cot, Smart TV and provides off-road parking for one car. It’s perfect for couples, families or friends.
Upon entering the cottage, from the rear there is a useful porch/utility room housing a freezer and a microwave, there is also space for coats or wet suits. This leads through to the small well equipped kitchen, where you can rustle up home-cooked meals to be enjoyed in the living/dining room or outside on the patio. The living dining room has a beamed ceiling, comfy seating, woodburning stove and a Smart TV, creating a cosy atmosphere for those chillier Winter evenings.
There is a ground floor king-size bedroom, and upstairs is a twin bedroom and a child's bunk bed room, both featuring Velux windows and sloping ceilings, adding a special charm to these practical sleeping quarters.
The property has a shower room, equipped with a walk-in shower, basin and WC as well as Velux window allowing natural light to flood in.
Outside, the rear patio opens directly onto the beach. There is a table and chairs for alfresco dining or simply taking in the views of Cardigan Bay. There is also a handy outdoor shower to wash away any sand after a day on the beach.
Further afield and set amongst the Cambrian Mountains is the awe-inspiring sight of Devil's Bridge Waterfalls, a spot sure to be a hit with photographers with its breathtaking cascades providing the perfect backdrop. It can be approached by the popular Vale of Rheidol Valley steam railway which begins and ends its journey in the bustling town of Aberystwyth. Here you can take a delightful ride on the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway, promising panoramic views of the town and the beautiful coastline beyond. History enthusiasts should pay a visit to the remains of the 13th-century castle on the promenade or to the grandeur that is the National Library of Wales. For those seeking to stretch their legs, why not take in Pen Dinas Hill Fort for another fabulous vista of the town and coastline. After fun-packed days discovering the local attractions and history of mid-Wales, look forward to returning for a relaxing evening at Glan Y Mor, your coastal haven.
