Greywalls is a modern-day, detached cottage, comfortably furnished with a mix of modern seating furniture and antiques, and nestled in Maulds Meaburn, notable for its picturesque village setting with the River Lyvennet running through it. The amenities of Orton, Crosby Ravensthorpe, Shap and Appleby-in-Westmorland are within easy driving distance. With an all-round enclosed garden and separate kitchen and sitting room, the cottage is perfect for a family or group of six looking for a peaceful base from which to explore the Lake District and Westmorland Dales at the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The Westmorland Dales is a largely undiscovered area of rolling fells and limestone pavement with pretty villages dotting the landscape. The area lies to the north of the Howgill Fells in Cumbria, extending over 200 sq km from Maulds Meaburn in the north to Tebay in the south-west and Ravenstonedale in the southeast. The Westmorland Dales became part of the National Park in 2016 and lends itself to wonderful walking and cycling opportunities. The lovely market towns of Kirkby Londsdale and Appleby-in-Westmorland beckon, and there are many more delightful villages to explore. Scenic golf courses abound at Appleby, Kendal, Penrith, Sedbergh, Silloth and Windermere to name but a few. Greywalls is a present-day cottage built in traditional Lakeland style, and inside you will find a warm and homely living space; prepare your favourite meals in the kitchen/diner with seating for six guests, where there is a Smart TV so you can watch whilst you cook, as well as a dish washer, washing machine and tumble dryer so you can travel light even if planning for a longer trip with plenty of outdoor activities, whether you stay local or travel further afield. With large windows looking out to the garden, the sitting room provides a bright and airy setting in which to relax, perhaps listen to music on the Bluetooth speaker, or enjoy a film night via the large screen Smart TV in the comfort of the warm glow of the woodburning stove. Kickstart your day with a hot shower in the ground floor shower room, which boasts a spacious walk-in shower, a heated towel rail, WC, and a warm storage cupboard for drying clothes and boots. Greywalls provides three well-appointed bedrooms, all of which oƯer plentiful storage space; take your pick from one super-king-size bedroom downstairs, and on the first floor another super-king-size, and one double bedroom – all beds have mattress toppers. The cottage features a peaceful enclosed garden with lawn, paved all-round terrace and two areas of outdoor seating from which to enjoy outdoor meals, hopefully in the sunshine. Maulds Meaburn preserves one of three remaining village greens in England where local sheep still graze the twenty-two acres of common, perfect for a gentle stroll whatever the weather, with the River Lyvennet running by. A short journey away, stock up on the essentials at Shap, with its shops and pubs, a great fish and chip shop, and an open-air swimming pool (open summertime only). From Shap explore the hidden gem of the truly unspoilt and rural Lowther Valley where you can also discover the fascinating ruins of Shap Abbey and Gothic Lowther Castle, where extensive ancient gardens, have been carefully crafted by Chelsea Gold winner Dan Pearson, and enjoy exceptional wild Lakeland walks amid the glorious fells and valleys of Swindale and Haweswater, in which at low water levels in some years the sunken, abandoned village of Mardale can be seen. Enjoy dinner out at the local pubs at Crosby Ravensworth, Hackthorpe, Clifton, Askham and Bampton Grange. Pooley Bridge, lying to the northwest of the cottage, is a good destination for light lunches, a good dinner, pleasant walks, taking a trip on the steamboat on Ullswater, or discovering the historic architecture of St. Paul's Church; you can even set oƯ from there to explore further the North Lakes Fells. From Maulds Meaburn, you are within striking distance of the breath-taking Lake District National Park, with the delightful towns of Ambleside and Windermere. For a livelier town, head south to Kendal, gateway to the gentle Lowland Fells of the South Lakes; from Kendal Golf Club to the award-winning Lakeland Climbing Centre boasting the tallest indoor climbing wall in the country, or the cultural pursuits of in Abbot Hall Gallery and Kendal Museum, there is plenty to see and do. For a stay in a well presented, functional cottage, with all the traditional comforts of home, Greywalls is an excellent choice for the best of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, and even a stepping stone to Scotland, only one hour away
