When it comes to exploring the local area, Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracey are just a short drive away and are great place to pick up some local produce. Locally, you’ll find a handy village store and The Carpenters Arms in Ilsington. Venture further into Dartmoor and visit Widecombe-in-the-Moor: a pretty thatched hamlet, with a 14th century church approached via winding country lanes: enjoy lunch or afternoon tea at the Café on the Green or sample the local ale at the famous Rugglestone Inn.
Unspoiled walking and cycling paths can be found nearby on Dartmoor's southeast slopes, which lead to Teignmouth's shore: a harbour town with a Victorian pier, a diving school, and a beautiful sandy beach. Consider stopping for a picnic at Haytor Rocks, a granite tor with breathtaking views of Dartmoor and the South Devon Coast. While away an afternoon browsing the antique shops and galleries of Ashburton.
