The property

The Stall at Valley View House is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Mealagh Valley, in the peaceful townland of Dromsullivan, and is just 10 10-minute drive northeast of Bantry town in West Cork. The south-facing property offers breath-taking views of the Valley and is the perfect scenic rural retreat — ideal for nature lovers, walkers, hikers, cyclists, photographers, writers, stargazers, and couples or individuals looking for a quiet base but with easy access to town.

The Stall is a sunny one-storey property consisting of an open plan living, dining and bedroom area, along with an ensuite bathroom. It is an ideal holiday property for a couple or a solo traveller wanting peace and quiet in beautiful, scenic countryside. The owner who grew up in the adjacent farmhouse has authentically preserved the original stonework in this stunningly remodelled holiday getaway. Enjoy the fully equipped kitchen, a cosy dining area and a comfortable couch, along with a Smart TV and an electric stove to create that relaxed night in after the day’s adventures. Indulge in the beautiful Mealagh Valley views, along with a drink to relax and soak up the fabulous countryside fresh air on the covered patio area. Let yourself relax and unwind while you listen to the birds in the trees and the rustling of the leaves blowing gently in the breeze.

The Mealagh Valley is one of West Cork’s best-kept secrets — a peaceful, ancient, and scenic rural area, it is a perfect base for visitors seeking nature, history, solitude, and an authentic taste of Ireland’s quiet countryside. It is well known for its historical and prehistoric sites of interest, including standing stones, a 5 stone circle, stone rows, and an Ogham inscribed stone near the river. The Mealagh River, rising on the slopes of Nowen Hill, meanders gently through the valley in a south-westerly direction. It enters Bantry Bay near Ballylickey. Within the valley, there is an abundance of rich green farmland, interspersed with pockets of woodland, blanket bog, diverse hedgerows, and wildflower-filled verges. The valley is a walker’s paradise, ideal offering options of peaceful country roads, unmarked trails, hillwalking combining ancient sites, forest edges, and panoramic views across Bantry Bay. It is rich in wildlife, and on your walks, you may see foxes, badgers, hares, herons, and even otters if you are lucky.

Nearby Bantry is a vibrant, walkable harbour town full of history, creativity, great restaurants, and natural beauty. It makes a perfect hub for anyone interested in a mix of outdoor adventure, local culture, food, and coastal charm. When staying at the Valley View House you are just a 10-minute drive to Bantry House & Gardens (beautiful views over the bay), Bantry Market (Fridays), Bantry Bay activities including kayaking and paddleboarding, whale and dolphin watching tours, sea angling and boat trips. Bantry enjoys a rich cultural, festival and music heritage which includes the West Cork Chamber Music Festival (June/July), Masters of Tradition (August) – a world-class Irish traditional music festival, as well as year-round live music in pubs like Ma Murphy’s, JJ Crowley’s, The Anchor Bar and The Mariner Bar. Excellent choice of local restaurant’s including The Donemark West (booking in advance essential), The Fish Kitchen, The Snug, and Organico Café.

Valley View House is the perfect base for day trips including Whiddy Island (quick ferry for a relaxed island escape — walking, picnicking, pint at the Bank House bar); Sheep’s Head Peninsula (fantastic for hiking, cliffs, lighthouses, and peace); Beara Peninsula (for dramatic drives, mountain passes, and the Dursey Island cable car; Mizen Peninsula (beaches, charming villages, seafood restaurants, stunning coastal walks); Glengarriff & Garnish Island (boat trips, sub-tropical gardens, hikes).

The Stall is the ideal getaway for solo-travellers and couples on a retreat in County Cork.
