Summary
The accommodation is spacious, ideal for large groups, and in a great location. However, maintenance issues and outdated furnishings were noted. The owner is helpful, but the property requires cleaning and upgrades to fixtures. Overall, it offers good value for budget-friendly stays.
The property
This delightful, detached, Grade II listed former hop brewery, part of which dates back to the 15th century, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in beautiful Cotswold countryside, in the village of Barnsley, just four miles from the ancient Roman town of Cirencester. This charming Gloucestershire holiday home boasts attractive, comfortable accommodation perfect for a get-together with family and friends in a stunning part of the country. Offering flexible sleeping arrangements, this Gloucestershire holiday cottage has eight spacious bedrooms, all with en-suites. The large first floor beamed sitting room has steps down to the rear garden, whilst the ground floor sitting room has doors to the side patio and has many games, DVDs and a Wii games console for the whole family to enjoy. A well-equipped, large fitted kitchen with dining area makes the perfect place for a long Sunday lunch or celebratory dinner. Outside this Gloucestershire holiday cottage is a private garden with patio area, perfect for a summer BBQ and relaxing with a refreshing drink. The thriving village of Barnsley has a classic village pub, which serves excellent food, or guests may prefer to enjoy a pre-booked relaxing spa afternoon at nearby Barnsley House. Just a little further afield is the Regency spa town of Cheltenham, offering many visitor attractions, an extensive range of shops, restaurants, the Gold Cup horse racing and The Cotswold Water Park with its many water based activities. The area is also popular with walkers, cyclists, horse riders and nature lovers, with the nearby National Arboretum at Westonbirt being home to one of the finest tree collections in the world.
